Sergey Cherep

Sergey is a contemporary painter known for his vibrant, expressive landscapes and distinctive use of color and texture. His work is rooted in Post-Impressionist influence, combining bold, non-naturalistic color with energetic brushwork to create scenes that feel both dynamic and immersive.

Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in 1969, Sergey began studying art at a young age, enrolling in a specialized art school by the age of eight. He later attended the Serov Art Institute, where he received rigorous training in classical disciplines, including European art history, painting, sculpture, and restoration techniques. This strong academic foundation continues to inform his work, even as his style has evolved.

In 1991, driven by a desire for artistic freedom, Sergey immigrated to the United States. Arriving without English and taking on modest work to support himself, he continued to paint whenever possible. An early opportunity to exhibit his work led to his first sales and marked the beginning of his professional career.

A pivotal moment came during a visit to California, where the landscape and light inspired a dramatic shift in his palette and approach. Moving away from traditional realism, he embraced a more vivid, expressive style influenced by Post-Impressionism. His paintings often feature thick texture, bold color, and a sense of movement, transforming familiar subjects into imaginative, almost dreamlike environments.

Over time, Sergey developed a signature style that is immediately recognizable, with work that reflects both technical mastery and a sense of creative freedom. Today, he continues to paint with a focus on color, energy, and the emotional experience of the landscape.
