Ann Pollard is an artist known for her vibrant, expressive paintings that emphasize color, texture, and intuitive composition. Working in acrylic and mixed media, her work moves between abstraction and impressionism, guided more by feeling than by strict representation.
Raised in Plainview, Texas, Pollard has painted throughout her life, influenced early on by her grandmother, Martha Robinson, a respected painter whose direct and instinctive approach left a lasting impression. She later spent 25 years in the Washington, D.C. area, where she studied extensively at the Alexandria Art League before returning to the Southwest in 1990 to continue her artistic practice.
Pollard’s process is rooted in intuition. Rather than working from a predetermined plan, she allows each painting to develop organically, building layers of color, pattern, and texture. Through washes, glazes, and impasto, she creates surfaces that feel rich, dynamic, and alive. Her compositions focus on harmony—balancing bold color with movement and depth to create a unified visual experience.
Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Washington, D.C. area, Texas, and New Mexico, and has received numerous awards. Pollard continues to create work that reflects a sense of joy, freedom, and expressive energy.
