Brent Learned

Brent Learned is an award-winning Native American artist known for his expressive portrayals of Plains Indian life. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, his work reflects a deep respect for heritage, history, and cultural identity, conveyed through a distinctive style that blends realism with a rustic, impressionistic approach.

Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Learned earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Kansas. He works across drawing, painting, and sculpture, with a focus on capturing the essence and authenticity of the American Plains Indian way of life. His use of bold, vibrant color and dynamic composition has become a defining characteristic of his work.

Learned’s art is included in numerous museum collections, including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the University of Kansas Art Museum. His work is also held in significant private and institutional collections, reflecting a broad recognition of his artistic contributions.

Beyond his studio practice, Learned is actively engaged in supporting the Native art community. He has contributed as a curator and collaborator on major projects, including exhibitions that highlight contemporary Native artists. His involvement in initiatives such as the Wintercamp exhibition and collaborations with renowned artists demonstrates an ongoing commitment to fostering visibility and opportunity for others.
