Cathy Lubke is a Texas-based painter whose work reflects a deep appreciation for the light, landscape, and quiet rhythms of the Southwest. Active as an artist since 1979, she is known for capturing the luminous qualities of natural light and the subtle beauty of everyday scenes.
Originally from Burkett, Texas, Lubke studied at Angelo State University, where she pursued a broad academic background including English, history, education, and art. She went on to teach at the elementary, secondary, and college levels before transitioning to private instruction, leading studio classes and painting workshops throughout the Southwest for many years.
Her work is rooted in careful observation of the land and its inhabitants, drawing from a close familiarity with the natural environment. While grounded in representation, her paintings often incorporate abstract design elements, creating a balance between structure and atmosphere. Many of her pieces focus on intimate, everyday moments, while others expand to capture the broader sense of scale and presence found in the Southwestern landscape.
Lubke’s work has been included in numerous juried exhibitions across the United States. Through her paintings, she continues to share a quiet, enduring connection to the rural Southwest, expressed through light, color, and a thoughtful sense of place.
