Ann Pollard grew up in Plainview, Texas. She spent 25 years living in the Washington DC area where she studied extensively at the Alexandria Art League in Alexandria, VA. She returned to the southwest in 1990 where she has continued to actively pursue her love of painting. Ann has painted all her life. Her paternal grandmother, Martha Robinson, was a notable painter and Ann was always fascinated by not only the paintings, but also by the direct and intuitive process used by her grandmother to make the work.
Ann Pollard’s paintings exude an uplifting, joyful spirit. Working in either an abstract or impressionist style in acrylic and mixed media, Ann Pollard paints with her heart intuition and instinct, not bothering with conventionality and often abandoning literal representation. She creates pictorial harmony while ever stressing the importance of expression. Bold color, pattern, and texture are paramount in Pollard’s work, creating lush layers of washes, glazes, and impastos which unite to the spirit of the whole. She likes the combination of the many effects throughout the depths of layers which create a varied and interesting surface area. There is never a preconceived plan; color serves the expression of each experience. The relationship of all the colors and textures result in a living harmony.
Ann Pollard’s work has been featured in solo and group shows in the Washington DC area, throughout Texas and New Mexico. She has received numerous awards and her work appears in public and private collections throughout the United States and Mexico.
