Anthony Gchachu, a member of the A:Shiwi (Zuni Pueblo), comes from a family rich in generational talent, with many potters and jewelers. Raised in Zuni, he left the Pueblo in 2015 to attend the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe. The natural landscape of northern New Mexico has been a significant source of inspiration for him, particularly during road trips that provided the sweeping views featured in his current “Land of The Shalako” series. Using specific color schemes, Anthony captures the vibrant New Mexico terrain during the winter and fall seasons. His layered acrylic paints add texture, depth, and incredible movement, all working together to evoke strong emotions.
