Amado Peña is an artist whose work is immediately recognizable for its bold color, powerful forms, and dynamic compositions. With a career spanning more than three decades, he has exhibited widely across the United States, earning both critical acclaim and a dedicated following.
Born in Laredo, Texas, Peña is of Mexican and Yaqui heritage and is honored as an Artisan of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona. His work reflects a deeply personal connection to both lineages, blending cultural influences into a visual language that is both distinctive and meaningful.
The landscape of the American Southwest plays a central role in his work. Through these environments, Peña conveys themes of resilience, dignity, and the enduring relationship between Native peoples and the land.
In addition to his studio practice, Peña has maintained a long and dedicated career in education. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art and Education and has spent many years teaching and mentoring students. This commitment to both art and education continues to shape his work, reflecting a lifelong dedication to cultural expression and artistic growth.
